Omi Rice
Environmentally friendly Rice

Mr.Kotani raises baby Nigorobuna carp in his rice paddies. When they get 1 - 2 cm big, he releases them into Lake Biwa. Nigorobuna carp is an endemic species to Lake Biwa and it is an essential ingredient in the traditional local dish "Funazushi".
However, as for the drastic decrease of them, many rice farmers implement this method. As it is important to have a good environment to raise Nigorobuna carp, Mr. Kotani reduces the use of agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizers by 50%. Therefore, Omi rice is environmentally friendly and also it is tasty and safe.
