Turnip was introduced into Japan in the Yayoi period (300 A.D.) Ohmi Kabu is bigger than other turnips and has a unique texture. It is rich in diastase and vitamin C that helps us digest and the nutrition is increased more in the season.
Ohmi Local Chicken
The local chicken has great texture and juicy taste. It also has a lot of protein. We use it for soup for hot pot.
Hinona
Traditional vegetable cultivated in Hino city in Shiga prefecture from about 500 years ago. As it has a great balance of spicy and sour, Hinona has been loved for many years. Usually Japanese people eat them as pickles together with leaf and root.

Ohmi Rice
Environmentally Friendly Rice
Mr.Kotani raises baby Nigorobuna carp in his rice paddies. When they get 1 - 2 cm big, he releases them into Lake Biwa. Nigorobuna carp is an endemic species to Lake Biwa and it is an essential ingredient in the traditional local dish "Funazushi". However, as for the drastic decrease of them, many rice farmers implement this method. As it is important to have a good environment to raise Nigorobuna carp, Mr. Kotani reduces the use of agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizers by 50%. Therefore, Ohmi rice is environmentally friendly and also it is tasty and safe.
